Benefiting the La Habra Boxing Club Foundation

The club which recently burnt down was established from an old church in the year 1981 as a crime diversion program. The club allows youngsters to constructively channel their energies into a self-confidence building sport. California Boxing Hall of Famer David Martinez has been the administrator and trainer at the La Habra Boxing gym volunteering his time for over 25 years. Mr. Martinez was a combat medic in the war and considered to be one of the highest recognized Vietnam Vets in California. He was rewarded 2 Silver Stars, 3 Bronze Metals, Air Metal, Combat Medical Badge and Parachute Badge. Many professional fighters have come to La Habra Boxing Club to spar in preparation for fights because of the talent produced here including Carlos Palomino, Julio Ceaser Chavez, Danny Green, Mikkel Kessler, Shane Mosely, Alfonso Gomez and Olympic Champ Tyrell Biggs. David Martinez has been the Administrator and trainer at the La Habra Boxing Club volunteering his time for well over the last 25 Years. Since day one he been helping kids to have a better alternative than hanging out in the streets, and working with the boys and girls club and the city of La Habra he was able to do so. It wasn't long before he started to gain a reputation for making good fighters to come out of the gym. Not only good, but legit world contenders.

The John Bray Boxing Foundation

"The mission of the John Bray Boxing Foundation is to prevent continued violence and risky behavior while promoting discipline as well as academic and athletic success among school-age students by providing a safe haven to these children where they will have the opportunity to interface with local community leaders."

The name John Bray may bring up a buzz in the boxing community with stories that date back to the early 90's. At the young age of 9, John had his first amateur bout and eventually would win seven national titles, with an outstanding record of 124-12. He would have his most notable win as an amateur winning the gold medal in 1991 against Melvin Foster at the US Olympic Festival in Los Angeles. John would win the gold medal alongside future world Champions Oscar De La Hoya and Raul Marquez.

Bray turned professional in 1992 and won his first couple bouts of his professional career, but his career never got on track and his record ended up 15-3-2. John had the opportunity to be mentored by historic trainers such as Angelo Dundee, Richie Giachetti, George Benton and Lou Duva. After being knocked out in the first round of a bout in 1998, he would eventually retire. He did however serve as sparring partners for Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis, Mike Tyson, and Mike McCallum. Bray then suffered a near fatal stroke and he walked away from boxing with the notion that he would never return.

Convicted Artist was originally an art gallery founded by extreme & unconventional artists in 2001. As the years passed the site grew in recognition and progressed into a more diverse variety of art forms and expressions.
